SHIPWRECKS, GHOST SHIPS AND

OTHER GREAT LAKES MYSTERIES

For some people, the term ghost ship conjures up images of large, phantom vessels sailing the high seas. While there are such ships on the world’s oceans, the Great Lakes has so many ghost ships that these phantom vessels have been dubbed the “Ghost Fleet.” Some of the ships considered to be in the ghost fleet include the Griffon, Bannockburn, W.H. Gilcher and Western Reserve.

In many cases, the wrecks of what are now ghost ships involved the loss of life. Could this be the reason for the very existence of ghost ships? Could it be that the spectral crews aren’t ready to abandon ship and are still sailing the Great Lakes and other waters throughout the world? While we may never know the answer to these burning questions, in the world of the paranormal, it would be considered a plausible explanation for some of the sightings, especially when so many accounts of ghost ships involve the spirits of long-dead crewmen.

The Anchor Bay area and Lake St. Clair are not considered to be on the Great Lakes, but they have their share of sunken vessels and perhaps a ghost ship or two.
